Our story
We – Frank and Elizabeth – bought Château de la Rosemontoise in 2022 with one mission: to bring this unique Belle Époque heritage back to life and open it up to guests who wish to enjoy peace, nature, and history.
With a focus on sustainability, we are restoring the château step by step and welcome you in English, Dutch or French.

History of Château de la Rosemontoise
In 1900, an architectural jewel rose at the foot of the Ballon d’Alsace: Château de la Rosemontoise. The château was designed in an elegant Neo-Gothic style by architect Constant Tisserand, on commission from the Ritter family. What was remarkable for its time is that it was one of the first private residences in France to be built using the then-revolutionary technique of reinforced concrete. Thanks to this innovation and the refined finishing, the château still exudes the elegance and grandeur of the Belle Époque, with original details that preserve the character of the building.
In 1947, a new chapter began: the Ritter family sold the château to the municipality of Belfort, which converted it into a children’s holiday camp. It was renamed Château Léguillon, after Georges Léguillon, the deputy mayor of Belfort, who facilitated the purchase. In 1970, an external sleeping building was added, allowing generations of children to experience summers full of adventure. However, the high maintenance costs put an end to this period, and the holiday camp was permanently closed in 2014.
A harsh winter in 2018 brought new challenges: a frozen water pipe on the second floor burst, causing severe water damage.
In 2022, we had the opportunity to acquire the château at an auction, starting a new chapter. Since then, we have been working passionately on a careful restoration, with respect for the original splendor and with a focus on sustainability.
Over the years, the château has borne several names – Château Ritter, Château Léguillon, and Château de Vescemont – but today, the original name proudly resounds once again: Château de la Rosemontoise. A place where charm, history, and experience come to life again.

The Halls of Château de la Rosemontoise
The halls combine authentic grandeur with modern safety according to the latest ERP standards, while fully preserving the historical charm.
Grand Hall – “Constant Tisserand”
Named after the architect who designed the château. On the ceiling of the former billiard and office area, the original Art Nouveau drawings featuring thistles have been restored (the original painting is still underneath). The thistle, a symbol of Nancy, Lorraine, and the Art Nouveau movement, also recalls the region where, between 1870 and 1871, the Franco-Prussian War took place, resulting in Belfort being separated from the rest of Alsace. In the rear section, the ornaments have been completely restored. The original oak floor, with planks of varying widths for a lively effect, has been carefully reinstalled.
Small Hall – “Belfort”
Named after its previous owner, the city of Belfort. The original wooden paneling and doors have been restored to their former grandeur, and the fireplace shines once again with gilded leaf discovered during the restoration.
Hallway
A colossal mirror from 1900 and the Art Nouveau stained-glass windows near the oak staircase together form an impressive entrance, making the château’s timeless elegance immediately tangible.
These spaces provide the perfect setting for events, receptions, and special occasions, while preserving the authentic atmosphere of the château.
